Ogunquit Playhouse, Ogunquit, Maine seeks an experienced A1 for our 2025 Season and Arts Academy productions. Approximate dates of employment between April and November. Full Season and individual 6-Week per show contracts are available.
Ideal Candidate: Must be detail-oriented, organized and focused in a fast paced working environment. Experience reading cable plots, and routine equipment maintenance are imperative.
Job Duties/Expectations include (but are not limited to)…
Reports to Audio Supervisor
Mix each Mainstage performance (8-9 shows per week). Qualified candidate must have substantial experience mixing large musicals (25+ person casts, 6-10 piece bands) using the Broadway-standard “line-by-line” DCA/VCA/CG mixing style
In collaboration with the Sound Designer, A1 will program the sound console for each production. - Qualified candidate must have substantial experience programming Yamaha CL Series consoles for “line-by-line” mixing
Collaborate closely with Sound Designer(s), Director(s), and Artistic Director to achieve the desired mix for each show and maintain the intention and integrity of the Sound Design throughout the run of the show
Assist in the Hang, Focus and Cable Runs of Audio Equipment, and determine cable paths for each audio plot with the Audio Supervisors direction
Receive, check in and help Audio Supervisor acquire necessary rental equipment needed per show basis and for Season rental
Train the Audio Supervisor and/or A2(s) to be substitute mixers for each production after it has opened, for adequate coverage. Note substitute mixer’s mixes and work with them to maintain integrity and intention of the Sound Design
Attend weekly work calls
Repair and maintenance of owned and rented Audio equipment. Show documentation and maintenance
Final Show documentation updated and provided to Production Manager for each show
Maintaining and organizing Audio Department inventory and infrastructure
Assist in rehearsals and load-in/strike as necessary
Possess a strong understanding of Sound System Signal Flow and Operation
Highly skilled in soldering cable, speaker rigging/hanging, and Signal Patching
Responsible for building wireless mic rigs and wrangling wireless mics backstage
Strong wireless systems understanding, including software, firmware, and networking knowledge
Capable of utilizing Hellerman Tools, Multi-Meters, and can demonstrate understanding of wireless element rigging
Must be able to troubleshoot problems quickly and effectively
Possess flexibility and positive backstage demeanor working with actors and other crew
Additional hours running events and Arts Academy Shows
Must be comfortable working at heights and able to lift and carry 50 lbs
Job requires ability to sit/stand for long periods of time, and bend, stoop, or kneel in execution of duties as assigned
Job requires ability to lift, carry, and move equipment up and down stairs in varied lighting conditions
Proficiency in the safe use of ladders, lifts, and fall arrest equipment
Unconventional hours may be required. Must be able to work overnights for Tech Weeks (typically four 12-hr days) for each production
Necessary Skills
QLab 4+
Yamaha CL Series
Dante Level 3 Certificate
Experience with Meyer Sound systems and software
Experience with Shure Wireless Workbench
Working understanding of general networking
Working knowledge of ClearCom analog communications systems and FreeSpeak wireless coms
Position is a W2, $24 /hr plus overtime and housing

Ogunquit Playhouse offers Health insurance to all employees who are with the company for 120+ consecutive days and work at least 30 hours weekly. Ogunquit Playhouse will cover 75% of employee’s company sponsored Health insurance premium. Dental and Vision insurance will also be available at the employee’s expense. Employees who work the entire Ogunquit Playhouse’s entire season will also accrue Earned Paid Leave up to 40 hours. Eligibility is based on the length of the contract. Shortening the length of that contract may affect eligibility.
