Head Electrician

Ogunquit Playhouse, Ogunquit, Maine seeks an experienced Head Electrician for our 2025 Season and Arts Academy productions. Approximate dates of employment between April and November>

Ideal Candidate: Must be detail-oriented, organized and focused in a fast-paced working environment. Experience drafting and executing lighting plots, design/construction of set electrics, and routine equipment maintenance are imperative.

Job Duties/Expectations include (but are not limited to)…

  • Assign line sets, circuits and dimmers, and determine cable paths for each lighting plot

  • Recognize and acquire necessary rental equipment

  • Pre-production work and planning with other production departments

  • Supervision of the electrics team

  • Schedule and plan weekly work calls

  • Repair and maintenance of conventional and automated lighting equipment

  • Show documentation and maintenance

  • Final Show documentation updated and provided to Production Management for each show

  • Managing and reporting production lighting budget

  • Maintaining and organizing Lighting Department inventory and infrastructure

  • Assist in rehearsals and load-in/strike as necessary

  • Complete AEA Haze and Smoke paperwork for all shows

  • Must be comfortable working at heights and able to lift and carry 50 lbs

  • Additional hours running events and Arts Academy Shows

  • Job requires the ability to sit/stand for long periods of time, and bend, stoop, or kneel while assisting actors, staff, and design team in execution of duties as assigned

  • Job requires the ability to lift, carry, move necessary equipment up and down stairs in varied lighting conditions

  • Unconventional hours may be required. Must be able to work overnights for Tech Weeks (typically four 12-hr days) for each production

Required Skills

  • EOS Family console configuration and programming

  • Lightwright 6 and Vectorworks 2018 or newer

  • Proficiency in the safe use of ladders, lifts, and fall arrest equipment

  • Experience with counterweight rigging systems, spotline rigging, and industry standard safety practices

  • Network configuration and management (physical networks as well as ETC Net3, sACN, ArtNet, and OSC via Netgear AV line switches)

  • Ability to deal with show control- (Midi, OSC, etc.) between lighting controls and media servers, audio, live video

Helpful Skills

  • Technical skills related to video and projection

  • QLab 5

  • PRG Mbox, Watchout 10 and Disguise 

  • General understanding of special effects including, but not limited to, atmospherics and electromechanical effects

Potential Design Opportunities

  • Design for one of Ogunquit Playhouse's Arts Academy productions for a stipend. Only if interested.

Position is a W2, $25 /hr plus overtime and housing.

Ogunquit Playhouse offers Health insurance to all employees who are with the company for 120+ consecutive days and work at least 30 hours weekly. Ogunquit Playhouse will cover 75% of employee’s company sponsored Health insurance premium. Dental and Vision insurance will also be available at the employee’s expense. Employees who work the Ogunquit Playhouse’s entire season will also accrue Earned Paid Leave up to 40 hours. Eligibility is based on the length of the contract. Shortening the length of that contract may affect eligibility.
