Based on the 1963 movie, a nerdy professor whose job is in jeopardy creates a formula to transform himself from outcast to influencer with hilarious consequences! This new musical comedy from Tony Award winners Rupert Holmes and Marvin Hamlisch will touch your heart and tickle your funny bone.   • A prolific and revered composer, Marvin (1944-2012) won nearly every major industry award: three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, a Tony, and three Golden Globe awards, as well as a shared Pulitzer Prize for A Chorus Line that was awarded to the show’s writing and production team. He and composer Richard Rodgers are the only “PEGOT” (EGOT + Pulitzer) winners to date.

    In addition to his illustrious theatre work, Marvin’s contributions to the world of film were extraordinary, creating music for more than 40 films and receiving Oscars for his remarkable adaptation of Scott Joplin’s music in The Sting and his classic score and song for Sydney Pollack’s The Way We Were. His scores included work for renowned filmmakers Woody Allen, Robert Redford, and Steven Soderbergh, and even wrote the James Bond title song “Nobody Does It Better” for The Spy Who Loved Me.

    Marvin served as a Musical Director and arranger for Barbra Streisand’s 1994 tour and television special, Barbra Streisand: The Concert. He also held the position of principal pops conductor for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Pasadena Symphony and Pops, Seattle Symphony, San Diego Symphony, The Buffalo Philharmonic, and The National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC. At the time of his death in 2012, Marvin was preparing to assume responsibilities as Principal Pops Conductor for The Philadelphia Orchestra.

  • Cheryl has returned to Ogunquit Playhouse for her 15th season. After taking over as Resident Scenic Charge 12 years ago, she has designed several Sets for our Arts Academy Program, as well as adding her artistic eye to many of mainstage productions. Since falling in love with Ogunquit Playhouse, Cheryl, and her husband Geof Dolan (OP Technical Director) have made the Seacoast their home year-round. Cheryl considers the Playhouse staff her family and hopes her love and passion for theatre is translated through these productions to all of you.
