The King And I

2007 Season

August 7 – 25, 2007

Winner of four Tony Awards, The King and I will be recreated with stunning Broadway sets and costumes, as east meets west in this dramatic and uplifting tale of a young English widow, Anna, and her stormy relationship with the King of Siam. Largely considered to be a barbarian by those in the West, the King seeks Anna’s assistance in changing his image, if not his ways. Struggling with their own values and traditions, they grow to understand and eventually respect one another, in this unconventional love story.

REVIEWS

"A lush production of "The King and I" that captures the exotic splendor of 19th-century Siam (Thailand) and the majestic beauty of Rodgers and Hammerstein's timeless score.... (Lorenzo) Lamas makes the part his own, delivering a commanding performance... The King and I is a breathtaking production...See the magic for yourself."  - Portland Press Herald

"There is depth, presence and believability to Lamas' naturalistic approach to his character; complex and a real joy...Rachel de Benedet plays Anna, and does so beautifully...The visuals in this play are sumptuous...There are splendid voices, smart, believable performances, incredible eye candy — all forms, and a story imbued with character rather than caricatures—a real pleasure." - Portsmouth Press Herald
