Synopsis
With Tevye’s daughters at the age to marry, he approaches the town’s matchmaker to find suitable spouses for his elder three daughters. With no money or other dowry to offer with his daughters, this is no small task. All-the-while they face the threat of a pending invasion of the village by Russian soldiers.
Meanwhile his daughters seeking love on their own terms, reject both their chosen suitors and the tradition of the matchmaking; his eldest because she has found her own true love. It is this timeless story of parents who try to maintain their traditions while their children struggle to find their own way that contributes to the universal appeal of this magnificent story.
Meanwhile, political unrest and anti-Semitism in the town mount. Like many other Jewish families, Tevye's family if forced to leave their home. Throughout the struggle they maintain their hope, realizing their strength it lies within.
